A memorial service to celebrate Brad's life will be conducted on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Medina Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12 noon until the service hour.

Brad passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 11, 2025. He was born and raised in Gibson County and was the son of the late James Leon McCoy and Annie McCoy Smith. He had a love for all things Tennessee Vols and Cincinnati Reds. He played little league where he was a standout catcher. His favorite player was Johnny Bench. Brad went on to coach little league baseball and always said that was some of the best days of his life. He spent these last few years enjoying every second of watching his grandon, Lincoln, play ball.

Brad was born with a voice for the radio. He started what would be a life long career working part time at the Trenton Station WTNE before graduating Peabody High School in 1982. He was the host of "The Real McCoy" on a mid day talk show on WNWS-FM 101.5 with The Golden Media Group. He spent many years broadcasting sporting events. From 1981-2001 he was part of "The Buzz and Harvey Show". The guys nicknamed him "Opie" because of the similarities of him to Opie on The Andy Griffith Show. He spent over twenty years working for Grace Broadcasting on WWGM 93.1 and other stations they owned.

In addition to his parents, Brad was preceded in death by his brother, Monte and beloved "Granny", Ruby Jewell Tharpe.

He is survived by the love of his life, Tonya McCoy; step son, Seth Buchanan; step daughter, Keely Buchanan; grandson, Lincoln Buchanan; and granddaughter, Scarlett Buchanan. Other survivors include a host of extended family, Caleb and Blakeley Barber and their daughters Emmy and Lanee, Xavier Brand, Jimmie Leech, Ernest Harper, Mark Hawks, Jeff Cagle and Freddy Brown.
