Brenda Jo Shumate passed away at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville on Monday, February 6th at the age of 57. Brenda is survived by her mother, Joan Meredith; husband, Danny Shumate; sons, Phillip and Justin Shumate; granddaughter, Charlie Shumate; sister, Beverly Newman. She is preceded in death by her father, James Doyle Meredith; brothers,  Michael and Carlous Meredith.

Brenda was born on January 18th, 1960 in Milan, Tennessee to James Doyle Meredith and Joan Meredith. She was born alongside Beverly Newman. She graduated from Northside High School in Jackson. She went on to graduate from Union University with a degree in nursing. She married the love of her life, Danny Shumate, on January 2nd, 1988. She later gave birth to Phillip Shumate in 1990 and Justin Shumate in 1993 at JMCGH. She was a registered nurse who dedicated her life to service to others, and she was overjoyed by the friends she made while doing so.

Visitation is scheduled from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, February 11th at Oakfield Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM at the same location.  Mickey Jackson will officiate the ceremony. The burial service will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Medina. All are welcome to celebrate the life of Brenda Shumate. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love, support, and prayers over the past month and during this time.
