Charles Clifford King, age 71, husband of Sarah Parker King, died at Vanderbilt Hospital on Saturday, July 4, 2015.
Charles was born the son of Clifford Daniel King and Dofy Duvall King, who, along with two brothers, Bobby Daniel King and Harry Joe King, predeceased him.
Charles graduated from Medina High School, Medina, Tennessee and attended Bethel College, McKenzie, Tennessee. During his school years he worked at Williams Drugstore on Main Street in Medina.
Charles served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his discharge, he resumed banking, enjoying a fifty-year career with Medina Banking Company where he earned the positions of President, CEO and Chairman. He attended the Southeastern School of Banking at Vanderbilt University.
Charles served as Chief of the Medina Fire Department from 1968 to 1987. He was a longtime member of the Medina Lions Club, serving in many capacities, including president. He was Past Master of Masonic Lodge 45, Jackson and attained 32nd degree in the Scottish rite, Memphis. Charles was an avid golfer. Mr. and Mrs. King have been generous and loyal supporters in the Medina Community, especially of the school system and of Little League ball teams.
Mr. King was a faithful member of the Medina First United Methodist Church where he served as usher for many years and was a member of the Administrative Council.
Charles is survived by Sarah, his wife of 48 years; his son, Daniel Parker King and wife Stacy, and their son, Jackson Daniel King, who lovingly called him Pop Pop. He is survived by his brother, Glenn Donald King and wife Wanda, and their children, Carrie Montgomery and Brad King. Also surviving are niece, Ginger Edens and nephew, Richard King. His extended family included loving grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. The Kings have been blessed with numerous friends. Charles cared greatly for his family and the town in which he was raised.
Visitation with the family will begin at 5 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Medina, Tennessee on Tuesday, July 7. A funeral service for Mr. King will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 at the Methodist church. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery, Medina, Tennessee.
Employees of Medina Banking Company and Medina Lions Club members are requested to sit together.
