Franklin Kimbro

A Life of Gifted Talent and Service

Born Franklin Cordell Kimbro, July 27, 1941, Nashville, TN to Clarence Snowden & Emma Dee (Burnett) Kimbro, he sweetly passed into the arms of Jesus on April 15, 2018.

He leaves behind, his sons, Stephen Kimbro (wife Elke),  Stuttgart, Germany; Matthew Kimbro, (daughter-in-law Julie), St. Louis, MO.; daughter Rachel Kimbro McNamara (husband Richard), MO. and step-son David Schoonover (wife Holly), Murfreesboro, TN.

Grandchildren, Quentin Kimbro, Stuttgart, Germany; Keelan Kimbro, St. Louis MO.; Maverick McNamara, MO.; and step-grandson, Ryan Schoonover, Murfreesboro, TN., and his wife, Beverly Kimbro, Jackson, TN.

He retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Sargent, then the Metro Board of Education, Nashville, TN.  Always gainfully employed, he consistently kept a third part-time job and enjoyed working security at the Nashville Metropolitan Airport.

His was a life of service to his Lord, his family, his church and his country. He was the true personification of the Army motto, “A Soldier for Life.”

A gifted musician, he was hired as banjo player by ‘G. M. Presley & the Possum Hunters Band’ at age 16. His gift of musical talent, he shared with all who knew him.

He served honorably in the Army National Guard for over 20 years, and was always ready to share the stories of his relationships of those with whom he served. These relationships included veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. He served in the ‘Cold War’, being deployed three times to the ‘Berlin Wall’.

He was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather. He participated in all his children’s activities, from sports, to chess matches to dance recitals.

As a faithful servant to his Lord Jesus Christ, he shared his faith with his children. “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

We grieve his absence, but rejoice in the certainty of his presence with the Lord.

The graveside service is April 20, 2018 at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN.  Flowers welcome.
