Guy Thomas Cox

McKenzie, TN

Guy Thomas Cox, 53, of McKenzie, formerly of Trenton, passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on May 31, 2019.

He was born October 23, 1965, in Trenton, to Charles and Pamela Hopkins Cox of Rutherford.

It is difficult to write an obituary about someone who was larger than life. Guy was definitely one of those people. He had an infectious laugh that was unforgettable and he always had a smile. Guy was one of the most genuine people you could ever meet. He was honest and trustworthy, and if you were lucky enough to be his friend, you had a friend for life. Guy was blessed to have had the opportunity to mentor lots of young cowboys and cowgirls… Not only to shape and mold them into great rodeo athletes, but also to teach life lessons. One of his favorite cowgirls was his daughter McKenna as he was her biggest fan.

Guy was so incredibly brave and strong during his last journey. He fought to the end; but God needed another great cowboy. Guy was a Christian and loved the Lord. He was always striving to be a better person. Guy was a true cowboy. He was a horse whisperer and could train a horse like no other. He could ride like the wind, and he was afraid of nothing; as he was tough. Guy was what every man strives to be, a great husband, father, son and true friend. He loved his family, his horses, his dogs and his life. Guy cared deeply for others and would always put their needs before his own. He will forever be loved and deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Amy Killen Cox; daughter, Casey McKenna Cox of McKenzie; son, Charles Matthew Cox of Gadsden; brother, Shane Cox of Dyersburg; father-in-law and mother-in-law David and Judi Thompson of McKenzie as well as a nephew and niece, Gray Smallwood and Hayden Kate Cothran of Kentucky.

Serving as pallbearers are Ty Hickerson, JB Hickerson, Sammy Henderson, Chance Henderson, James Wages, John Butler, David Porter, Cleve Crook, and Scott Grooms.  Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Carlton, Colby Criswell, Scotty Criswell, JL Needham, Keith Rinehart, Andy Carlton, Duard Parsons, Justin Carlton and Jason Needham.
