Hazel Ward

September 4, 1929 — September 13, 2024

Humboldt

Hazel Ward, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Tennessee State Veterans Home-Humboldt. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Jackson, Hazel attended Jackson High School. She spent over 30 years employed by South Central Bell, now known as AT&T.

Hazel is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Thomas) DeLoach and Mona (John) Garner; sister Jennifer Gordon; brother Agard (Beverly) Dickten; grandchildren Mike (Cherrell) Goff, Chad (Lauren) Goff, Mary (Marc) Taylor, Ben Harton, Sara Littrell, Jeff (Naida) Smith, Peter Smith, Tyler (KC) Smith, and Molly Smith; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Ward; daughter Pat Ward Goff; mother, Edith Dickten; and brother, Ted Dickten.

In retirement, she found fulfillment in volunteering as a Pink Lady with the American Red Cross at Regional Hospital, where she touched many lives with her kindness. She put her fun ways to use when she transformed into Squeaky, The Clown. As Squeaky, she made many people smile, especially children, when Squeaky showed up at birthday parties.

Hazel had a strong sense of conviction and was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a person of remarkable determination, especially when faced with physical challenges due to her health. When Hazel entered a room, you knew it. She left a lasting impression on everyone around her. Her humor brought countless memories of shared laughter.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Tennessee State Veterans Home-Humboldt for the exceptional care and kindness they showed Hazel. Their compassion, support, and tireless efforts made all the difference in Hazel’s time there, and we are forever thankful for the dignity and comfort you provided.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Highland Memorial Gardens.
