A HOMECOMING Celebration Service to honor the life of Mr. Jimmy Greer will be held Friday, May 12 at 3:00 P.M.at First Baptist Church, Union City TN.
Friends and Family are welcome to attend, with a reception to follow.

Jim was a kind hearted man who loved his Creator, wife, family, and friends. He believed in loving and helping others. He lived his life in a way that all who knew Jim were fond of him. “They’ll know we are Christians by our love,” is a quote that certainly applied to Jim.

Born in Searcy Arkansas, September 1, 1935, Jimmy Dean was the only child of J.D and Erna Greer. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the love of his life, Sue Greer.

He is survived by son Brad Greer and wife Jennifer, and their 5 children, Jonathan, Cameron, Emily Anne, Abby, and Claudia. Jennifer and Brad loved Jim, and he sure loved them. Brad and Jen lived with Jim for 5 years, a time mixed with fun, joy, declining health, difficulty, and simply put, family. Jonathan, Cameron, and Emily Anne also helped to take care of their grandparents during these years. Jim is also survived by his oldest son Dean, wife Lory, who live in Little Rock, and their two daughters Ginny and Julia, as well as a host of Sue’s brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Jim grew up in Searcy Ark, in a loving Christian home. He graduated from Searcy High School in 1954, then joined the U.S Navy where he served with honor in the Pacific Fleet Combat Camera Group, taking aerial pictures of enemy military installations. Honorably Discharged in 1957, Jim served 4 additional years in the Reserves.

He enrolled at ASU in Jonesboro in 1960 and met fellow freshman, Sue Overfield. He was smitten, and she must have had a weak moment! They got engaged and were married that summer. They lived in married housing working hard to pay their way through school, their rent, and provide for themselves. Both graduated in the class of 1963 with business degrees.

Jim took a job with Sears in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Dean was born there in 1964. The young family moved to Blytheville Ark, where Jim became the plant manager of the Coca Cola Bottling plant. Jim’s dream of having 2 sons came true in 1968 with the birth of John Bradley.

In 1980, the family moved to Jonesboro for a brief stay, and in 1983, the Greers settled in their beloved Union City TN.

Jim was a businessman, serving as sales manager of KT Distributors for several years before starting a business of his own, V I Profiles. A friendly and conscientious salesman, he built a strong and successful advertising business that serviced West Tennessee. His son Brad, followed in his footsteps building an advertising business in Jackson.

With a love for people, Jim Greer lived out his life in Union City. If he was your friend, you had a friend. He mowed neighbor’s yards if needed, helped host parties at his house, or friend’s houses, and counseled those in need. He served Union City in many ways, including being a

Rotarian (Paul Harris Fellow), a member of Downtown’s Main Street board, and numerous other community endeavors.

Never one to be bitter, Jim used experience from his own trials to help others facing similar situations. After Jim won a battle over colon cancer, he went on a mission to encourage others to “get checked” for the same. Many people were diagnosed from their test results and lived because of his insistence to take their health seriously. A smile and a positive attitude was a hallmark of his life, and he brought happiness to those lucky enough to be around him.

His most important work was serving his Savior through his church. He served as chairman of the Deacon body and as a Sunday School teacher. With a deep faith in Christ, he lived his life in a way that was a light to all.

In 2017 with Sue’s Alzheimer’s progressin, he chose to move to Jackson to be with Brad, Jennifer, and the grandchildren. These years were enriching as well as difficult. In 2019, his bride became the bride of Christ, and Jim missed her dearly.

On April 27, Jennifer spent the day beside Jim, and that evening with Bradley by his side, he slipped into eternity to rejoin one hand with his beloved wife and the other with Christ.

The Greer family appreciates the friendships shared with Jim and Sue, the outpouring of love and support during this time, and invites all to join in celebrating this good and faithful servant, father, husband, and friend.
