Joan Thompson Meredith

Mrs. Joan Thompson Meredith age 90 of Humboldt, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at her daughter's residence. 

She was born December 27, 1933, in Gibson County to the late Wesley Thompson and Nina Stegall Thompson. Mrs. Meredith was a retired factory worker and member of Bible Grove Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Meredith was full of life and vigor and was a force to be reckoned with. She enjoyed spending time with her family and adored her great grandchildren. Mrs. Meredith loved the outdoors and to work in her yard. She also loved to cook and known for her delightful fried pies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Doyle Meredith; two sons, Mike Meredith and Carlous Meredith; daughter, Brenda Jo Shumate; two grandsons, Brandon Lynn Newman and J.R. Meredith and eight brothers and sisters. 

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Newman and husband Billy of Humboldt; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Meredith of Martin and Maggie Meredith of Murfreesboro; son-in-law, Dan Shumate of Mobile, AL. Six grandchildren, Carlous Meredith and wife Kevi of Murfreesboro, Meredith Newman Sibenaller and husband Danny of Dawsonville, GA, Laura Infante and husband Ricky of Tullahoma, Phillip Shumate of Mobile, AL, Stephanie "Mic" Barnes and husband Lorenzo of Burkburnett, TX and Justin Shumate and wife Jordan of Mobile AL; granddaughter-in-law, Amber Newman Grimes of Medina. Other survivors include thirteen great grandchildren and Joan's beloved canine, Batman.

Serving as pallbearers are Carlous Meredith, Daniel Sibenaller, Ricky Infante, Andy Newman, Phillip Shumate and Justin Shumate.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Meredith will be conducted Monday, February, 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Medina Funeral Home with Bro. Mickey Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The Meredith family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
