John Winford Bynum, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at his home in Jackson. He was born on August 17, 1942 in Colbert County, Alabama, the son of the late John W. Bynum, Sr. and Chrystal Hefley Bynum.
His family lived in Lenior City, TN until the 5th grade. John attended Jackson High School, graduating in 1960. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville the summer of 1966 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. His first job after graduation was an insurance adjustor for Liberty Mutual in Boston, MA and Atlanta, GA. Then he became a salesman for Del Monte Foods and Proctor and Gamble in Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood, FLA. In 1978, he graduated from Union University with an Associates degree in Nursing. He worked in CCU, Open Heart, ER and Surgery with his last years in Neuro Surgery.
After retirement from JMCGH in October 2010, he and his wife of 17 years, Jan, traveled extensively until his illness in December 2011. He was a devoted husband, step father and brother. He was soft spoken and kind. John enjoyed all sports, especially UT College football, cooking, grilling and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Jan of Jackson, step children Gavin Wyatt of Jackson and Jordan Leigh Wyatt of Nashville and brother, Joe Bynum of Hixson, TN.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 5 from 11:00 until 1:00 from the Chapel of Medina Funeral Home 302 W Church Ave, Medina, TN. A private memorial service will follow.
