Mary Hart Huelin died at her home in Jackson, September 6, 2013 after a mercifully short battle with lung cancer. She was born Mary Margaret Hart on November 14, 1930 in Colerain, OH, and spent her early years working with her family on a farm. After high school, she moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and briefly attended Duquesne University. In a day when career-oriented women were rare, she held positions with Mellon Bank and US Steel before landing with National Tube. With this firm she travelled all over New England, installing mainframe computers for various corporations and training employees to use them. She married in April of 1965 and took on the career of homemaker, moving to Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Annapolis, MD to follow her husband’s employment. In 1974, she moved to Charlotte, NC, which became her home for the next 36 years. There she held several jobs and was also a member of Mouzon United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the UMW and a signal contributor to the annual Bazaar. Late in life she moved to Jackson to be closer to her grandchildren. Her final months were spent at Morningside Assisted Living, where she was known for her sense of humor and was treated like a queen. Mary was preceded in death by parents Nicholas and Esta Hart and husband Wilfred Huelin. She is survived by brother Carl and sister-in-law Evelyn Hart of Corry, PA; brother-in-law William and sister-in-law Pauline Huelin of Charlotte, NC; son Scott and daughter-in-law Tamarin Huelin of Jackson; and grandsons Jeremy and Cameron Huelin, also of Jackson.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 in Luther Hall on the Union University campus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dream Center, 49 Old Hickory Blvd East, Jackson, TN 38305.
