Mr. Maurice Alfred Hayes age 90 of Bells, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at his residence.
He was born July 20, 1933, in Alamo to the late James B. Hayes and Hattie Stewart Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a lifelong farmer and retired from Pictsweet. He was a member of Bells First Baptist Church and a Veteran of the United States Army having been stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of sergeant.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers, Lucille Stokes, Pansey Bryant, Mary Frances Hensley, Martha Pinkston, Alvis Williams, Wilson Williams and James B. "Jim" Hayes, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Judy Davis Hayes of Bells; three daughters, Rhonda Hart and husband Jimmy of Fruitvale, Gail Cooke and husband Barry of Alamo and Jennie O'Donnell and husband Bob of Bells. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Katie Pigue and husband Daniel, Sarah Harding and husband Bryan, Bill Henderson and wife Jamie, Tara Henderson, Charleston O'Donnell and wife Leslie, Hayes O'Donnell, Davis O'Donnell and wife Hayden and Joseph O'Donnell as well as nine great grandchildren, Luke Pigue, Aiden Pigue, Ellie Pigue, Logan Harding, Nela Harding, Isabel Henderson, Clark Henderson, Hutch Henderson and Simon Cates.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill Henderson, Charleston O'Donnell, Davis O'Donnell, Joseph O'Donnell, Daniel Pigue, Bryan Harding, Clark Henderson, Luke Pigue and Aiden Pigue.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hayes will be conducted Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Bells First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Harbin and Bro. Zac Hannaford officiating. Burial will follow at Belleview Cemetery. The Hayes family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from Noon unitl the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Bells First Baptist Church, NOAH or a chairity of the donor's choice in memory of Mr. Hayes.
