He was born on July 8, 1956 in Dyersburg to Julian Hinton and Katherine Burnette.

Michael is survived by his son, Michael J. Hinton; daughter, Rachel D. Sweat; brother, Julian B. Hinton, Jr.; sister, Donna Horne; and grandchildren, Jayla McAnally and Blakely Sweat.
