NELLIE RAGAN
July 17, 1948-November 26, 2020
Local business owner of Ragan's Convenience Store for 40+ years, Nellie Mae Dudley Ragan was ushered into the presence of her Savior on Thursday, November 26, 2020. While her family and friends will forever miss her, they are thankful that God chose to take her home on Thanksgiving taking away the pain she had endured over the last few years with her illnesses.
Nellie was born to Joe and Susie Dudley on July 17, 1948. She was the one of 7 children who spent many days and nights cooking, playing dominos, and enjoying family.
She was preceeded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lloyd Ragan, her parents Joe and Susie Dudley, her brothers Dennis "Gator" Dudley and Buddy Dudley, and grandson Waylon Wyatt.
She is survived by her children Tonie Frentzel (Matt), Terry Wallace, Ronnie Ragan (Brandi), Kim Hamilton (Greg), and stepsons Lloyd Ragan Jr, and Lloyd Creasy (Rita). Nellie adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves 2 sisters, Joyce Keen and Judy Horne, and 2 brothers, Bobby Dudley and Jerry Dudley, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Nellie had a passion for serving the community of Westover and Airways Blvd at Ragan's Convenience Store. She began her career in 1981 with Mike Rose at Roseco at the corner of Airways and Fairgrounds St in Jackson. Her husband Lloyd, along with daughters Tonie and Kim, purchased 2 different locations on Airways Blvd in the mid-80s and later moved to her current location on Airways near the Bypass.
If you knew Nellie, you knew how giving she was. There are countless people she helped without anyone ever knowing. She had the biggest heart and always wanted to help. Over the years, Nellie has impacted lives of family members as well as friends in the community and total strangers. Her willingness to share what God had blessed her with will be her lifelong legacy.
Nellie will be interred alongside her husband Lloyd at Highland Memorial Gardens in a small family ceremony on Saturday, November the 28th at 2pm. For those planning to attend, please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Ronnie Ragan will be conducting the service on Facebook live at 2pm for anyone wishing to be a part of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s hospital in Nellie's honor
The family would like to express their gratitude to Cindy Moss and Pat Collins for their superior care and love for Nellie during her final few months. Also, special thanks to Tonie for being her primary caregiver for the last 3 years. To Kim, thank you for doing an amazing job taking care of the business and lastly thank you to the many wonderful employees Ragan’s over the past 40 years.
