Patricia Ann Carter Dunlap

Patricia Ann Carter Dunlap died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the age of 76. Pat, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, grew up in Crockett County and raised her family in Humboldt.

Pat is survived by her children, Kimbrough L Dunlap, III (Paula) of Brentwood, Susan Wilson of Humboldt, Sally Hendrick (Robert) of Nashville, and Judson Dunlap (Laura) of Gibsonville, North Carolina, grandchildren Kimbrough
“Brody” L. Dunlap, IV of Nashville, Sarah Anna Wilson and Keaton Benjamin Wilson of Humboldt, Zoe Jane Hendrick, Amy Katherine Hendrick, and Annie Lauren Hendrick of Nashville, Grace Elizabeth Dunlap and Kennedy Brooke Dunlap of North Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Bino Carter and Annie Marie Loyd Carter Ferguson, her son-in-law, James Dennis Wilson, and husband of 29 years, Kimbrough L. Dunlap, Jr.

Patricia was born on May 21, 1941 in Crockett County, Tennessee to Lawrence and Annie Carter. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1958 and married Kimbrough L. Dunlap, Jr., a lifelong resident and businessman of Humboldt in 1959.

She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics from The University of Tennessee and a master’s degree from Auburn University. Patricia stayed home twenty years with her children before beginning her teaching career at a juvenile correctional facility. She then taught special education in the Humboldt City School system until retirement. Pat was assigned to request funding from the state of Tennessee that successfully started the first public Kindergarten program for the entire state.

After retiring from teaching, Pat moved to middle Tennessee to open a pager and cell phone retail store in Murfreesboro and to be near to her children and grandchildren.

Pat was a mother, teacher, artist, pianist, journalist, and a creative, fun lady. Building floats for the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival, giving bridal parties, and hosting Christmas open houses were favorite pastimes.

Visitation is scheduled at Medina Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 14.

On Friday, December 15, visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt, TN, from 12 to 2 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2 pm at the church, followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
