Richard Earl Brooks, age 86 of Cedar Grove, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday morning, February 12, 2023.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Carolyn Elaine Brooks; three children, Kathy Byford (John), Debbie Sanneman and Russell Brooks (Cathy); fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Rik Brooks (Marylynn).
He was a US Army/Navy veteran, who served from 1955 until 1967. He was one of a select few who were chosen to be in the prestigious Third Army Band where he played the base horn. When he got out of the service, he became a carpenter and was employed by the Memphis City Board of Education for thirty-four years. He retired in July of 1989 and moved to his beloved farm in Cedar Grove. He loved living in the country and out of the big city life, but found that the boredom of retirement was not for him. So, in November of 1992, he opened Home Furnishings of Cedarhurst in Cedar Grove. After many years of serving his customers, his proudest moment was providing and being a part of the Huntingdon, TN, street light conversion. He also played a major role in the Shelbyville, TN, street light conversion.
Richard was a very good man that always helped anyone in any way that he could. The good Lord blessed him in many ways for that. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Richard’s favorite song was “Let There Be Peace in the Valley” by Tennessee Ernie Ford. We know you have finally found your perfect peace...
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Brooks home with their adopted son, Dr. Trent Coleman from Memphis officiating.
