Robert James Waddell
Jim Waddell of Gibson, Tennessee, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died at home on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 after a long illness. Mr. Waddell was born on September 17, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated from Treadwell High School in 1962. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memphis State University in 1967, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He joined the Memphis Police Department in 1967, retiring in 1998 at the rank of Captain. In retirement, he settled in Gibson, where he continued in public service. He served as the election officer for the Gibson precinct and as the municipal judge for the City of Gibson for many years, and he was a member of Gibson Baptist Church. Mr. Waddell was the son of the late Lilah Elizabeth Goff Waddell and Robert Lee Waddell.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Dianne Byrd Waddell, a daughter, Summer Waddell Bowen of Nashville, Tennessee, a son, Robert James Waddell Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and five grandchildren: Jackson James Bowen, Johnson Raymond Bowen, and Miller Byrd Bowen of Nashville, and William Blackstone Smith-Waddell and Margaret Elizabeth Smith-Waddell of Atlanta. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Waddell Stachowiak of Hartford, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Gibson Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, March 30 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Gibson Baptist Church.
