Wilma Nelson
Wilma Maxine Nelson departed this life on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center at the age of 85 years 6 months & 5 days.
She was born November 16, 1928 in Osawatomie, Kansas to the parents of John and Ethel Currier. She moved with her family and was raised in rural western Missouri. She attended Hickory County Missouri Schools, graduating from Wheatland High School. She was also a graduate of Draughn’s Business College in Springfield, Missouri. She joined the First Christian Church as a young person.
A homemaker much of her life, she was also employed by the department of the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Her Gift was the creation of many types of handiwork. Whether it be knitting, crocheting, or fine needlepoint – her hands were seldom still. She produced countless works of art through thousands of repetitions.
Wilma was pre-deceased by her parents John and Currier and an infant sister Alberta.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years Lyle Nelson, one son John Nelson and daughter-in-law Bonnie, one grandson Chris Nelson and wife Jessica , one granddaughter Alicia Collins and husband Jameson , one great granddaughter Madilyn Collins, one great grandson Alex Nelson , one sister Kathryn Isberg and Husband Olan , and one brother Brig. General John Currier- USA – Retired .
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 20014 from the Chapel of Gibson Funeral Home, with Bro Steve Dillard officiating. Inurnment will follow at Centerville Cemetery in Medina.
